Upcoming Concerts

We are looking forward to the remaining concert season with our Director, Mr. Jon Borodach. All concerts will be at 7:00 p.m. at First Congregational Church of Boulder:

April 13, 2024 - “Westward, Ho!” features a collection of music evoking the beauty and excitement of the Wild West. Composer Kirk Vogel will conduct his Redstone Revel, dedicated to the musicians of the Lyons (Colorado) Middle/Senior High School Band and Dr. Karen Gregg, Director, on the opening of their new auditorium in 2021. Fun fact: Lyons Sandstone, owned by our principal Horn player and Board President Bernard Buster and his wife Brenda, provided the redstone that was used to build the benches and tables for a gathering area outside the auditorium, and to decorate an interior wall of that very same auditorium!

Tickets are available through Zeffy at this link, or click the button below:

Meet Our Special Guest, Composer and Conductor, Kirk Vogel

We eagerly anticipate performing under the baton of Kirk Vogel, as he conducts his composition, Redstone Revel, at our April concert.

Mr. Vogel has spent his entire music education career involved with Colorado schools, including teaching assignments at Palisade Jr./Sr. High School, Bayfield middle and high school and, for most of his career, Heath Junior High/Heath Middle School in Greeley. During his career, he was fortunate enough to be able to teach band, orchestra, choir, and jazz band. His Heath Junior High School Symphonic Band performed at the Colorado Music Educators Association (CMEA) Annual Convention and the Heath Jazz Bands performed twice at the CMEA Convention.

In retirement Kirk continues to be active as a composer, guest conductor, adjudicator, and an educator/clinician with recent clinics being presented at the Colorado Bandmasters Association and Colorado Music Educators Association conventions. Kirk was inducted into the Colorado Music Educators Hall of Fame in 2020.

Mr. Vogel has  had a successful career as a composer of band and orchestra music, being published by Kjos Music Company, Alfred Music, Grand Mesa Music, and Southern Music. His compositions Kokopelli, Three Waters Mountain, Escalante, and Perseids were the winning entries in the Colorado Music Educators Association Composers Competition in 1993, 1996, 1998, and 2000. His compositions have been performed at state music conventions, the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the National Flute Association Convention and the American School Band Directors Association National Convention. The Pittsburgh Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, community bands, and now the Boulder Concert Band have performed his music. He is a writer member and publisher member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Mr. Vogel received his Bachelor of Music Education from Capital University and Masters of Music Education from the University of Northern Colorado.

Mr. Vogel resides in Greeley, CO with his wife, Susan. They have two grown daughters. On his free days, he loves to spend time with his family hiking and photographing nature.

In the spirit of our “Westward Ho!” concert theme, we are pleased to announce that award-winning photographer Andy Schwartz of Soaring Light Images, will display a small collection of his photographs of the West, for you to view in the lobby on the evening of our concert.

As the official Boulder Concert Band photographer, Andy has assured us that he will bring the beautiful photo on our concert poster, shown below! Andy took that photograph in the barn at the Sylvan Dale Guest Ranch just west of Loveland, in February of last year. Andy revealed that the cowboy is actually wearing his wife’s hat, as his was in for repairs at the time!

Past 2023-2024 concerts

October 28, 2023 - “Songs of Peace” was a great success, in spite of a last-minute four-inch snowfall.

December 9, 2023 - “The Most Wonderful Time of the Year” included a visit by Santa Claus, and more snow and cold. It was our most wonderful concert of the year! Many thanks to all those who helped make it happen.

February 17, 2024 - “Cityscapes” featured a guest appearance from our former director, Dr. Kenneth Singleton, and a (virtual) visit from Godzilla!
